Myanmar Starts In Yangon

Myanmar Starts In Yangon…

An incredible 6 weeks had come to an end and next up Myanmar starts in Yangon. I woke up still feeling very ill from the previous couple of days but was starting to feel human again for my two flights that would eventually mean landing into Myanmar. This was a new country for me so even in my ill state my excitement still shone through. The first of the two flights was a very short 35 minute voyage from Kolkata to Dhaka, Bangladesh, which to be honest I hardly noticed I was flying as once we had taken off and ...

Pagoda Hopping In Bagan

Pagoda Hopping In Bagan…

Next up it was pagoda hopping in Bagan. A place I had been looking forward to visiting since I started to make my travel plans.. I didn’t get much in the way of a deep sleep but managed to drop off a few times and get a good couple of hours in. The seats were laid out in a 1-1-1 format so there was plenty of room either side and the seats reclined to make it a comfortable night bus experience. Water, blankets and neck pillows were also supplied. The journey in total took around 9 hours with a couple ...

The Local Life On Inle Lake

The Local Life On Inle Lake…

It was again time to move on and my next adventure in this amazing country was to experience the local life on Inle Lake. I had pre-booked a VIP bus ticket online with the highly recommended company JJ Express with a journey time of 8 hours. After having breakfast at my hostel I took a taxi to the bus station and bought a few snacks for the journey. The buses in Myanmar stop around halfway through for a 30 minute food break but I always like to have some supplies on hand. The bus itself was in a 2 – ...

Off The Beaten Path In Hsipaw…

It was time to take my journey north from Inle Lake and head off the beaten path in Hsipaw. I was going to be spending a day trekking and it gave me the prefect opportunity to see how the Shan people live in Myanmar. Firstly, I need to get there and this involved a 14 hour day/night bus journey from Inle Lake. I was taken by tuk tuk from my hostel and waited on the side of the road whilst the bus arrived. I managed to find a shop to buy some chocolate and biscuits as you can never be ...

Over The Goteik Viaduct We Go…

The day had arrived. I was about to start the journey and experience one of the things I had been looking forward to the most when I planned my trip to Myanmar. Over the Goteik Viaduct we go. I took the 15 minute walk to the train station and arrived 45 minutes before when the ticket office opened. Hsipaw train station was no more than a large hut but this was exactly what I expected. Overgrown grass covered some areas of the track and the platform itself filled with tourists all taking the same journey to Pyin Oo Lwin. I ...

Myanmar Finishes In Mandalay...

Myanmar Finishes In Mandalay…

After starting in Yangon two weeks ago my time in Myanmar finishes in Mandalay where we arrived in the shared taxi after only 75 minutes. As there were two other passengers in the taxi both of them were dropped off first and Nick and I were the last to be taken to our hotel. I already had a reservation and providing there was room Nick was to stay in the same hotel for one night. After a quick check in it was time for a quick shower and change before we met Sally who we had both spent time with ...
